My story
I'm Mike Maiorano, a mortgage broker and the person behind Bestrate Mortgage. I got into this business in 2019 because I saw a chance to help people through one of the biggest financial decisions they'll ever make — and because I like the mix of finance, problem-solving, and working directly with people.
I split my time between Michigan and Florida, and I lend in both. My business is especially active in Southeast Michigan — Macomb County, St. Clair Shores and the Grosse Pointe area — as well as Northern Michigan around Petoskey and Harbor Springs, and along Florida's Gulf Coast in Venice, Sarasota County and the surrounding communities. I'm licensed in 12 states, so if you're moving between them, you don't have to start over with a new lender.
As a broker, I can shop multiple lenders instead of selling you the one product a bank happens to have. I've worked with first-time buyers, self-employed borrowers, commission earners, investors, second-home buyers, and plenty of files that didn't fit in a box. Some of the transactions I'm proudest of are the difficult ones — purchases closed in as little as 7 to 10 days while juggling appraisals, insurance, HOA documentation, surveys and complicated income.
What I care most about is being reachable. Borrowers and Realtors should be able to get a real person who knows the file and can give them a straight answer — not three voicemails and a callback tomorrow. I'll tell you when a loan, a strategy, or a house isn't the right fit, even when it costs me the deal. My goal isn't to close a mortgage. It's to earn enough trust that you call me again and send me your family and friends.
Outside of work you'll find me with my family or on a golf course, somewhere between Michigan and Florida.
How I work
I don't sell rate. I lay out your down payment, closing costs, real monthly payment, and escrows clearly and simply, so you know exactly what you're getting into before you commit.
This process can feel overwhelming, and that's normal. We take it one step at a time, go over everything as many times as you need, and there's no such thing as a dumb question.
My clients become clients for life. Whether it's your next home, an investment property, or a refinance down the road, I'm here for all of it — before, during, and long after closing.
